إِنَّا بَلَوْنَاهُمْ - Indeed, We tested them , أَصْحَابَ الْجَنَّةِ - the companions of the garden, إِذْ أَقْسَمُوا - when they swore, لَيَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِينَ - to cut its fruit in the [early] morning, وَلا يَسْتَثْنُونَ - And were not willing to set aside a portion (for the poor), فَأَصْبَحَتْ كَالصَّرِيمِ - So it became as black, barren land, فَانطَلَقُوا - So they went off, وَهُمْ يَتَخَافَتُونَ - while lowering their voices, أَن لّا يَدْخُلَنَّهَا الْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُم مِّسْكِينٌ - There will surely not enter it today upon you [any] poor person, لَضَالُّونَ - we have gone astray, مَحْرُومُونَ - deprived, قَالَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ - The best among them said, أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ لَوْلا تُسَبِّحُونَ - Did I not say to you, Why do you not glorify (Allah)?, ظَالِمِينَ - wrongdoers, وَلَعَذَابُ الآخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ - And the punishment of the Hereafter is greater, لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ - if they only knew,
