pollen is produced in the anther of the stamen, pollen is collected by the wind or by a visiting insect, pollen travels away from the original plant, pollen lands on the stigma of a carpel in a different plant, this is called pollination, a pollen tube then travels down the style towards the ovary, when it reaches the ovule, fertilisation occurs, this forms a new seed, when pollen from an anther lands on the stigma of the SAME flower this is called self pollination, this is often prevented as pollen is often ready before the stigma is ready to receive the pollen.
