Mouth/Oral Cavity - Place where digestion begins , Tongue - Positions food for chewing during mechanical digestion & mixes it with saliva, Teeth - Grid food into smaller particles - Mechanical Digestion, Salivary Glands - Glands in mouth that produce saliva for Chemical Digestion and lubricates food, Soft Palate - During swallowing, it lifts to block the nasal passages to prevent food from entering them. , Epiglottis - During swallowing, it lowers over the glottis or opening of the trachea to prevent food from entering your lungs, Pharynx - Passage shared by food and air - Your throat , Esophagus - The Muscular tube that carries food from pharynx to your stomach using peristaltic waves of contractions, Stomach - Stores food- Secretes HCl or Hydrochloric Acid, Pepsin, and mucus to help digest food. , Duodenum - First section of the small intestines where chemical digestion occurs using Bile from liver and Gallbladder and Pancreatic enzymes, Liver - Produces Bile which is stored in the Gallbladder and used to break down lipids or fats, Gall Bladder - Stores bile that is produced by the liver , Pancreas - Produces Sodium Bicarbonate to neutralize stomach acid and insulin to regulate blood sugar, Jejunum - Second section of small intestines where absorption of nutrients begins begins, Ileum - Third section of the small intestines where absorption of nutrients is completed., Appendix - A vestigial structure at the beginning of the large intestine., Large Intestine - Responsible for storing waste, reabsorbing water and salts, and bacteria that make vitamins B and K , Rectum - Last part of the large intestine that stores feces until it is eliminated., Anus - The end of the Digestive tract that is a sphincter which regulates the release of feces or poop, Villi - Small finger like projections that are found in the small intestines and help to increase surface area for nutrient absorption,
