Flashback - A part of a story in which the action jumps ahead/ forward to the future., Flashforward - A part of a story in which the action jumps ahead/ forward to the future., Focus shift - Changes in idea and perspectives e.g. outside to inside, normally presented by the use of paragraphs (paragraphs are used to organise ideas- one important idea per paragraph)., Main character - People, animals, beings, creatures, things that drive the plot forward in a story., Dialogue - Conversation between the characters., Symbolism - when something represents something else e.g. black bird represents death., Setting - A place and time where the action of a text takes place., Juxtaposition - Contrast, opposite, the differences between two things., Ellipsis - A sequence of three dots indicating that something has been omitted (missed out)., Cliffhanger - Is when a story or a plotline ends suddenly or a large plot twist occurs and is left unresolved., Foreshadowing - Prediction about the future based on clues left in the text by a writer., Cyclical structure - When a story circles back on itself (the story ends in the same way it started)., Linear structure / Chronological order - Where the story is told in the order it happens; the reader finds out what happens in the ‘correct’ , logical order- this can lead the reader through events clearly., Zoom in - A writing technique used in descriptive writing that gives the reader the feeling of moving through space towards a character or object., Zoom out - A writing technique used in descriptive writing that gives the reader the feeling of moving through space away from a character or object.,
