exposition, provides background information, introduces the characters, settings and mood, initiating event, reveals the purpose and allusde to the conflict or dilemma central to the story, conflict, event or situation that must be overcome, solved or resolved by the characters, events, actions or situations experienced by the characters that lead to the climax and resolution, climax, the turning point in the story. It is often the most suspenseful and exciting part of the story, and when the conflict is addressed, resolution, the solution to the conflict or the event that brings the story to a close, conclusion, the end of the story. This is also when the theme, or the lesson of the story becomes apparent to the characters and the reader.
