1 - After a moment of profound sadness, Desirée suddenly utters a cry that she could not help., 2 - Armand enters the room but does not notice her or the baby and Desirée insistently calls him to ask a question., 3 - Armand coldly says that the child is not white, therefore, Desirée is not white either., 4 - Not being able to believe Armand´s accusation, Desirée writes a letter to Madame Valmondé., 5 - Madame Valmondé tells Desirée that she and the baby should go to Valmondé to live with her., 6 - Desirée asks Armand whether she should go to Valmondé or not., 7 - Desirée takes the baby and walks across a deserted field leading to Valmondé. She did not come back again., 8 - Armand Aubigny builds a great bonfire in which he burns the corbeille that belonged to his wife., 9 - Armand finds an old letter from his mother to his father in which he realizes that his mother was mixed race as well.,
