plot - the events that take place in a story (includes: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution), exposition - beginning of the story where background, characters, and setting are introduced, rising action - events that become complicated in the story that lead to the climax, internal conflict - man vs. self - conflict inside of a person's mind, external conflict - conflict outside of oneself - man vs man, man vs. nature, man vs society, Climax - turning point in a story; character has to make a critical decision or take a critical action, falling action - events and complications fall into place to lead toward resolution, resolution (denouement)  - the final outcome of a story, setting - time and place of a story, mood - feeling the reader gets about the scenes in the story, especially at the beginning, round character - character that has a fully developed personality in a story (life-like), flat character - one-dimensional character who lacks depth, dynamic character - character who goes through change and "grows" (not physically) in a story, static character - character that doesn't change through the story, dialogue - conversation between characters; can reveal information about characters, symbolism - something that represents itself and a larger idea or concept, point of view - perspective from which a story is told, first person point of view - tory told by the protagonist or a character who interacts closely with others in the story; readers experience story from this character's perspective;uses pronouns "I" "we" "us", Second person point of view - story told by a narrator who addresses the reader as "you"; uses pronouns you, your, yours, third person person point of view - story told by a narrator who sees all the action; uses pronouns he, she, it, they, his, hers, its, theirs, third person limited point of view - story told by a narrator through the eyes of one character and readers only see the story for that person's perspective, Third Person Omniscient Point of View - God-like point of view; the narrator knows and sees everything and can tell the story from character to character's mindset because they know all the characters thoughts and actions, innocent eye/naive point of view - story told through a child's eye; narrator's judgement is childlike not like an adult, stream of consciousness point of view - story told so readers solely experience a character's thoughts and reactions, unreliable narrator - story is told by a character in a story who is not trustworthy and whose account of events should be treated with suspicion, protagonist - the main character in the story; all events are important to this character, antagonist - character in opposition of or enemy of the main character, theme - central message or moral of a story, personification - giving human qualities to something non human,
