people send love cards to girlfriends and boyfriends (don’t sign them), buy flowers and chocolates - Valentine’s Day 14th February, March 17th Irish patron, people wear green clothes with shamrocks, parades, dances - St Patrick’s Day, (in USA) July 4th people have picnics, barbecues, watch fireworks - Independence Day, 5th November in England, children make guys, collect pennies, make bonfires, watch fireworks - Guy Fawkes’ Night, 31st October People wear costumes, have parties, children go trick or treat - Halloween, last Thursday of November (USA) dinner roast turkey, people say thank you for good things that happened  - Thanksgiving, 25th of December people decorate a Christmas tree, send Christmas cards, sing carols, give presents (25 in the morning) eat special food (roast turkey, Christmas pudding), pull crackers (small present, paper hat, joke) exchange wishes - Christmas Day, February people eat a lot of pancakes, in some towns there are pancake races - Pancake Day, have a party, blow out candles on a cake, get presents, sing Happy Birthday - birthday, 31st of December people go to parties, drink champagne, dance all night, watch fireworks, in Scotland it’s called Hogmanay, at midnight people sing traditional song Auld Lang Syne - New Year’s Eve,
