There is variation amongst individuals in a population due to random mutations., There is a selection pressure in the environment such as competition for resources., Some individuals have alleles which make them better adapted to the environment/competition., These individuals survive and reproduce., The useful alleles they possess are passed on to the next generation., This process is repeated many times and can lead to the evolution of new species (Darwin's Theory)
