rigour, a teacher's attitude towards teaching, where they don’t settle for mediocrity, but the level of the work is pitched right up to the top, a silver arrow, an idea to break the monotomy of ingrained practice, a knowledge organiser, an educational template on a piece of paper to make it clear to the student as to what is essential to learn, metacognition, an awareness of one's thought processes, dialogic questioning, an extended teacher-student dialogue with one student, retrieval practice, an active recall of information from memory without aids, strengthening long-term retention, a deep end, placing students in challenging, un-scaffolded situations, going off-piste, stepping outside the rigid curriculum.
