Describe a friend, colleague, or classmate who constantly complains about everything — work, weather, people, prices — and how it makes you feel. (thick skin, drive(s) me up the wall, get under my skin, bite my tongue, lash out, bottle up my emotions, put things into perspective), I have a friend who complains about absolutely everything, and honestly, it drives me up the wall. At first, I tried to bite my tongue, but after a while it really started to get under my skin. I didn’t want to lash out, so I bottled up my emotions instead. Eventually, I had to put things into perspective and remind myself that everyone deals with stress differently., Describe a time when someone criticised you — maybe a teacher, boss, or even a stranger online — and how you reacted (thick skin, put a brave face on, get something off my chest, let off steam, bottle up my emotions, take a step back), I once received very harsh feedback from a supervisor, and although I try to have thick skin, it was difficult to hear. I put a brave face on in front of everyone, but inside I felt frustrated. Later, I needed to let off steam and talk to a close friend to get it off my chest. After I took a step back, I realised the criticism was actually helpful., Describe a situation you witnessed — in a shop, restaurant, or public transport — where someone behaved inappropriately (make a scene, lash out, drive someone up the wall, bite one’s tongue, take a step back, put things into perspective), Once I saw a customer make a scene in a supermarket because their coupon didn’t work. They started to lash out at the cashier, which must have driven her up the wall. I really had to bite my tongue because I wanted to interfere. After taking a step back, I realised it wasn’t my place to get involved. Still, it was uncomfortable to watch., Describe a time when you pretended everything was fine even though you were struggling (put a brave face on, bottle up my emotions, let off steam, get something off my chest, get under my skin), There was a period when I was overwhelmed with work, but I kept putting a brave face on. I bottled up my emotions because I didn’t want to worry anyone. However, small problems started to get under my skin much more easily. Eventually, I realised I needed to let off steam and get everything off my chest. After talking it through, I felt much lighter., Describe a person whose behaviour or habits irritate you, but you still have to interact with them regularly (get under my skin, drive(s) me up the wall, thick skin, bite my tongue, lash out, put things into perspective), There’s someone I work with whose constant interruptions really drive me up the wall. Even though I try to have thick skin, their comments sometimes get under my skin. Most of the time, I bite my tongue because I don’t want to lash out. I’ve learned to put things into perspective and focus on the bigger picture instead of minor annoyances.
