The Abenaki people lived in the Northeast part of America for thousands of years. They built homes called wigwams out of wood and bark. They lived in small groups and respected the land., Every year, the Abenaki planted corn, beans, and squash together., As Abenaki children grew up, they listened to stories told by their elders (the older people). These stories taught them how to be kind, how to use plants as medicine, and how the world was made., They started living in modern houses and wearing modern clothes, just like people do today., Today, the Abenaki still celebrate their culture. They go to powwows to dance and sing. They still tell the old stories and use medicine plants to keep their traditions alive for the future.
