Some SEs find DM the most challenging criteria to assess. Why do you think this is?, It’s the only one of the criterion which isn’t in general use, so may be less accessible to SEs. We immediately think we know what the others mean, but not necessarily DM. There’s also a lot to remember in the criteria., What are cohesive devices?, words/phrases that indicate relationships between utterances., What are discourse markers?, words/phrases that are primarily used in spoken language to add meaning (in fact, btw, obviously), What is the difference between cohesion and chorence in spoken discourse?, COHESION - physical connections at sentence level COHERENCE - overall logical structure, Is it possible to have a higher mark for DM than for G&V?, This is possible, as the criteria are quite different. However, a quick check of the standardisation video marks in the Guidelines booklets seems to suggest that GV and DM tend to be either the same or only half a mark different, which is interesting., To what extent could some answers that lack relevance affect your assessment of DM overall?, Relevance is related to the task, so must be taken into account, but it is not the only element of DM. The mark needs to be a balance of all the sub-criteria., What are the sub-criteria of DM?, cohesion/ coherence/ extent /extended streches of lgg/ relevance/ repetition, A candidate may produce gramatically correct discourse although it is not coherent., Sure!
