BCD / BC / jacket, a buoyancy control device used to control and maintain buoyancy by adding/releasing air, wing, a BCD that inflates only at the back (common in technical diving), regs, regulators; hoses that connect the tank to your BCD and mouth for breathing, octopus / occy / alternate, the alternate air source (spare regulator) used in air-sharing situations, first stage, the part of the regulator that connects to the tank (DIN or yoke), inflator hose, hose on the BCD used to inflate/deflate it, pressure gauge, gauge showing how much air is left (PSI or bar), fins, worn on your feet to move through the water (not “flippers”), mask, diving mask covering eyes and nose (not “goggles”), bottle / tank, the cylinder that holds your breathing gas, pony bottle, a small emergency air tank (more common in deep/remote/currenty dives), O-ring, a small rubber ring that seals connections (tank valve/regulator parts), SMB / sausage, an inflatable surface marker buoy signalling you’re below the surface, rashy, rash vest; top that protects from sun/rubbing and adds comfort under a wetsuit, logbook, a book/app for recording dives (depth, bottom time, marine life, etc.), nitrox, enriched air (higher oxygen than standard air) allowing longer bottom time (within limits).
