There was once a king of Syracuse whose name was Hiero., King Hiero gave a famous goldsmith ten pounds of pure gold to make a crown., The goldsmith promised to return the finished crown in ninety days., The crown weighed exactly the same as the gold the king had given., Archimedes carefully examined the king's crown., Archimedes wondered if the goldsmith had mixed the gold with brass or silver., King Hiero asked Archimedes to find out if the goldsmith had cheated him., Archimedes thought about the problem without damaging the crown., One day, while taking a bath, Archimedes noticed that water flowed out of the tub., He realized that his body displaced a quantity of water equal to its volume., He shouted, "Eureka! Eureka!" because he had found the solution., The crown was tested by measuring how much water it displaced., The crown displaced more water than ten pounds of pure gold.
