Perform hand hygiene with sanitizer, Gather supplies (gait belt), Place the wheelchair at least 10 steps away and lock the brakes, Knock on the door, Explain procedure to resident, Lock bed brakes, Close privacy curtain, Raise head of the bed, Assist resident to sit at side of the bed with feet flat on the floor, Assist resident to put on shoes or non-skid socks, Put gait belt around resident's waist and tighten, Check gait belt for tightness by putting fingers under the belt, Hold gait belt with both hands underneath, count to 3, assist the resident to stand, Ask resident if they feel dizzy, Hold the back of the gait belt and take 10 steps to the wheelchair, Assist resident to turn around so they feel the wheelchair on the back of their legs, Assist resident to sit, making sure resident is sitting all the way back in the wheelchair, Remove the gait belt, Move resident so they are in reach of the call light, Open privacy curtain, Perform hand hygiene again
