Formative Assessment, Takes place continually throughout the course. It reviews progress and identifies how well someone is progressing in their learning. The teacher should use the results of this assessment to inform teaching., Initial Assessment, Used to determine the right course, any learner needs and support required. It can also be used at the beginning of a lesson to identify how much prior knowledge the learner has., Diagnostic Assessment, Usually done prior to, or at the beginning of a course. These identify the learners current skills, knowledge and understanding towards a subject area. The results can be used to obtain a starting point., Summative Assessment, The final assessment result. E.g. fail/ pass/ merit/ distinction, Medal and mission feedback, Provides praising feedback to learners on what they have done well and provides information on what they should do next., Aims, The generic statement of what the teacher wants the learners to get from the session., Lesson Objectives, The Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Relevent and Timeframed goals that state what the learner will be able to do by the end of the lesson., Active learning, Challenges the learners to think deeply about the subject matter and aids memory retention., Passive Learning Mindset, Learning is done to me. If I don;t learn, it is the teachers fault or I am not clever enough. Learners with this mindset tend to be defeatist., Active Learning Mindset, If I don;t understand I need to find out more, ask questions, research and reflect better. I need to try harder to succeed., Passive learning, Learners are expected to absorb information without being challenged to think deeply about the material. Traditionally, lectures are this kind of learning.
