Then, I do one part at a time. Big problems are no problem!, list steps, When I learn a new skill, I write down the steps. The next time I need to do a problem, I check my notes and follow the steps. This helps me use brain power on math and not remembering steps., try it out, When it’s hard to decide which operation or strategy to do in a problem, I just try experiment, and see if it works. If it doesn’t seem right, I try another way., visuals, I use and draw charts, diagrams, and drawings to visual the problem and solution. Seeing helps me to learn., look twice, When I feel clueless about what to do, I reread the directions and problems. It helps me to understand what to do., common sense, I use logical reasoning and estimation. If my answer says that I can eat 150 watermelons when I was supposed to get a fraction, I know to check my math. I can only eat 1/4 of a watermelon!, growth mindset, When I have an open and willing mind towards math, math gets easier. When I feel challenged or overwhelmed with math, I add “yet.” I can’t do this... yet! I know my brain can learn math.
