Step 1 - Use chromatography paper and draw baseline in pencil as pencil will not dissolve in solvent , Step 2 - add food colouring to baseline using a dropper, Step 3 - place the paper in a beaker of solvent ensuring the solvent is not above the pencil line, Step 4 - to ensure the food colouring/dye will not dissolve in the solvent , Step 5 - Allow the solvent to travel up the paper and food colouring/dye to separate, Step 6 - Take the paper out before the solvent reaches the top and mark the solvent front,
