The heart is myogenic (generates it's own electrical impulses), The impulse starts at the SAN,, a wave of excitation spreads the impulse through the walls of the atria,, this causes atria systole (contraction of the atria). , The impulse then passes onto the AVN,, the AVN delays the transmission of the impulse for approximately 0.1 secs, , the impulse then continues down the specialised fibres called the bundle of His. , The bundle of His branches into smaller bundles called the purkinje fibres, , the impulse passes into the purkinje fibres which are found in the ventricle walls,, the ventricles contract (ventricular systole).
