Mouth - The beginning of the digestive tract which chews food and adds saliva to food to create a bolus, Stomach - Food drops from the oesophagus into this pouch which uses its muscular wall (mechanical) and its gastric juice (chemical) to break food down into small particles, Large intestine - Reabsorbs essential water back into the blood vessels from undigested food, Small intestine - Longest part of the digestive system responsible for absorbing the nutrients from the food back into blood vessels , Anus - The sphincter muscle at the end of the digestive tract - passes waste out of the body, Oesophagus - Long muscular tube that transfers food from the mouth to the stomach, Rectum - The final holding place of undigested food before being excreted from the body, Epiglottis - A flap of skin at the back of the throat that prevents food going down the trachea (windpipe) , Liver - Produces bile which helps break down fats and oils. It also removes toxins from the blood, acting as a purifier, Pancreas - Not a part of the digestive tract but connected to it. It releases pancreatic juices that help digest fats, carbs and protein (macronutrients).,
