Empowerment - Providing individuals with support to make their own informed choices and decisions in relation to what they would like to see happen as the result of the safeguarding process, e.g. by supporting individuals to understand the risks, benefits and possible options open to them and encouraging them to consider these., Prevention - Equipping individuals with the knowledge and understanding of what danger, harm, abuse and neglect are, e.g. providing individuals with information in a format that they can understand, i.e. verbal, written, pictorial about what danger, harm, abuse and neglect are, the actions to take as well as the support that is available if these happen., Proportionality - Ensuring all safeguarding decisions made in relation to individuals are appropriate to the level of risk identified, e.g. reassuring individuals that everyone is working in their ‘best interests’ and that action will only be taken when needed., Protection - Providing individuals with support and representation during the safeguarding process when required, e.g. providing information to individuals in relation to how to report abuse in a format they can understand, providing reassurance when individuals have concerns and/or report abuse., Partnership - Working in partnership, i.e. with individuals, their families, friends and advocates, health and social care practitioners, other professionals, across different services and organisations, e.g. by maintaining the individual at the centre of all partnership working, providing continuity and consistency of care and support., Accountability - Being willing to accept responsibility and account for one’s actions, e.g. being clear about how to work together to protect individuals, getting to know the individuals and all those involved in their lives,
