You are handed a beer at a party. Your friends start chanting, “Chug!” You quickly gulp the beer.  (2), You are going to a concert with a person you have been dying to get to know. They pull out a joint and say, “Want some?” It will make the music sound great!” You say, “Sure” and take a drag. (2), You have been making a project for school. The glue you use has a strong odor and you have noticed that you feel light-headed after a few minutes of using it. Lately, you have started carrying the glue around with you, so you can sniff it whenever you feel like it. (3), You have finally made the varsity team. Before the big game you get together with some of your teammates to go over the game plan. One of them comes over with his vape and says, “Do you want some?” You say, “Sure,” while trying to hide your feeling of nausea. (2), You have gone to a party with some friends. When you get there you see a keg. Over in the corner some guys are obviously very drunk. You decide this party isn’t your style and call your parents for a ride home. :), You have been waiting all week to try to go to a party because you knew the people having the party would have plenty of alcohol… you have gotten into it before. Your best friend comes over and hands you a beer. You smile and take your first beer of the night. (3), You are spending the night at a friend’s house because you know their parents will be gone for the entire evening. You also know your friend’s parents have a large liquor supply you have gotten into before. (2), You are spending the day at the beach with some friends. They have been drinking all day, and now it is time to go home. You know you don’t want to ride with someone who has been drinking, but you don’t want to find out about the drinking, so you climb in the back seat, buckle up, and hope for the best. (4), You have been caught drinking by you parents. They talked to you about the problem and grounded you for a week. Now it's Friday night and your folks are out for a couple of hours. The doorbell rings and when you open the door, your friends suggest that you go for a short ride with them, You smell alcohol. You say, "Thanks, but I can't. Catch you later," and close the door.  :), Your school counselor has recommended to your parents that you get a substance abuse assessment. You skip the appointment and lie to your parents about it. (3), Getting high is the most important thing in your life. It takes up most of your thinking. You are getting high to escape from your feelings and avoid your problems. More and more you are stealing money from your parents to pay for your drugs.  (4), Your best friend has been showing signs of drug use for the past six months. They have been missing school, going to classes high, and acting secretive. You decide that as their friend you are going to let them know that you are concerned about them, even at the risk of making them angry. :), You have been feeling increasingly desperate because you know you are using drugs constantly, and inside you know you are out of control. Your school counselor has been trying to help you, but you have refused the help. You best friend told you last week that they were worried about you and offered to go with you to get some help. You decide to talk again with your friend.  :), You are babysitting for a neighbor’s children. Before they leave they tell you to help yourself to anything in the refrigerator. Now it is late, and you’re bored and hungry. You open the refrigerator and see a bunch of wine coolers. You select a soda and go watch TV. :).
