The past progressive = was / were + verb + ing. For example, I was ____ a book for two hours yesterday. They were ____ a movie. We use it to talk about an action ____ in the past. Use 'was' for singular subjects like 'I' / 'he' / 'she' / 'it'. Use 'were' for plural subjects like 'you' / 'we' / 'they'. For example, She ____ eating while they ____ playing. Use the past progressive to emphasise the ____ of an action. For example, 'He ____ doing exercise for two hours this morning.' To make negative sentences, change 'was' for 'wasn't' or 'were' for 'weren't'. For example, 'You ____ sleeping and the baby ____ crying.' To make questions, just reverse the subject with 'was / were'. For example, ____ she traveling the world last year? ____ ____ living in China?' We don't use state verbs in progressive form. For example, if I say, 'I wasn't having a car yesterday,' it's ____. I must say, 'I didn't have a car yesterday'. If the verb finishes in 'e', (make/take/care) we remove the 'e' and put 'ing'. For example, 'I was ____ a cake yesterday.' 'Oscar and Jenny were ____ for the child.' Try these activities. I ____ ____ dinner at 7pm last night. You ____ ____ a movie in the morning. He ____ ____ video games all day last week. We ____ ____ in South Africa last year. The car ____ ____ strange noises last week. Sally ____ ____ well yesterday. David and Mark ____ ____ golf in the afternoon last Sunday. They ____ ____ against the champions of the league. What ____ ____ ____ in the morning? Where ____ ____ ____ in her car?
