The female mosquito needs a blood meal., She bites a person who is infected with malaria and takes the plasmodium parasite from them., The mosquito flies off to a shady spot to digest her blood meal. The parasites multiply inside her., She is a vector and bites a second person., The parasite is passed into the second person’s blood stream, Once the parasite is in the person it moves into the blood stream and attacks the red blood cells, causing malaria., 7-10 days after a person has been bitten, they can experience a fever, shivering and anaemia. Adults are unable to work and children can’t go to school., It can be fatal, especially if the immune system is already weakened by malnutrition or other illness..
