cortex sends an excitatory signal to the striatum, the striatum sends an inhibitory signal to the GPE, GPE is unable to inhibit the subthalamic nucleus, making it disinhibited (unable to inhibit), STN excited the GPI neurons, GPI neurons inhibit the thalamus even more, thalamus is inhibited and cannot excite the cortex, causing no movement.
