The river is on its floodplain with a very low gradient , The river flows normally and mainly deposits (silt and sand)., The river floods, and a lot of silt is deposited on the river banks and much less on the floodplain., Frequent flooding continues and this build up., This raises the river above the floodplain., The built-up levées protects the plain from flooding, as they keep the river within the banks.
