Use your measuring cylinder to measure out 10 cm3 of hydrochloric acid. Pour this into a glass beaker, Clean your measuring cylinder with some water., Use your measuring cylinder to measure out 10 cm3 of sodium hydroxide. Pour this into the glass beaker with the acid., Stir the two substances together for one minute using a stirring rod., Use the stirring rod to place a drop of the solution onto a strip of universal indicator paper., Record the pH. If neutral move to step 7. If not ADD A DROP of acid if the pH is 8 or higher and Alkali if the pH is 6 or  , Set up your apparatus as shown in the diagram from last lesson., Use a pipette to transfer about 5 cm3 of the solution from your beaker into the evaporating basin., Use a blue roaring flame to heat the solution GENTLY. Your teacher will show you how to do this to prevent the solution , Stop heating when you see only a small amount of solution remaining and turn off the Bunsen burner., Do not touch the apparatus until it has completely cooled down..
