Often found at the start of the extract, Dialogue - This is a conversation between two or more characters. It gives us an insight into the characters thoughts and feelings. It helps to break up the structure., Zooming in - Focusses on one particular character/scene/object up close. A detailed look. This shows importance., Zooming out - It focusses on a wider view. It provides a lot of detail for a wide view, usually for the setting., Foreshadowing - Hints/Clues given to the reader about what might happen in the future., Flashback - To go back in time. They provide insight into a character's background/history., Shift in focus - Panning around the room. Bouncing from object to object. Moving between characters, scenes or objects. Shifting from a character to another or from one object to another or from one scene to another., Long Paragaphs - This is where the action is. Creates importance. , Short Paragraphs - A one line paragraph. It can be used to pause the writing. It creates importance., New character - Represents a change in character. Introducing a new character. What is the purpose of this new character?, New Setting - Represents a change in setting. Introducing a new setting. What is the purpose of this new setting?, Extended metaphor - The writer explains the metaphor throughout the text., Pace - How quick or slow the narrative is moving. Where is this and how has it been used?, Point of view - Who is telling the story? Does this change or remain the same?
