This then led to it spreading to the New World and elsewhere. - How did the influence of rhetoric spread throughout the world?, Bias is a prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair. - What is the definition of bias?, He was an extremely aggressive and emotional public speaker, he tapped into existing stereotypes and prejudices, or he created a scapegoat for all society’s problems in the form of the Jewish people. It is not acceptable for students to claim that Hitler’s arguments were strong and logical as generally his arguments were based on emotional histrionics and weren’t logical at all. - Why do you think people found Hitler’s rhetoric so persuasive? Explain your answer., Yes, it is important to question the words of our leaders and potential leaders because their power doesn’t necessarily mean they will always make the right decisions. We should always remember that living in a democracy means the actions - Do you think it’s important to question the words of our leaders and potential leaders?, Persuasion is generally considered to be less forceful than manipulation. Persuasion means trying to get someone to agree with you while manipulation means purposely trying to deceive someone; in other words manipulation is deceptive while persuasion is guileless. Persuasion is done to benefit the other party while manipulation is done purely for one’s own benefit. All variations of these answers are acceptable. - Do you think persuasion is the same as manipulation?, It is harder for people to take in complex ideas when listening to a speech rather than reading written text; therefore main points need to be boiled down to their essence and gone over again and again. - Why do you think repetition is such an effective technique in public speeches?, It is usually more effective to sound more positive overall than negative. Optimism is considered admirable whereas too much negativity can produce a negative effect on the audience. Pessimism is not considered admirable and is not a quality people like to see in their leaders.
